8,588 meters! A new record has been set with the Tianyi DQ70 top drive!!!

　　On February 25, China Central Television’s News Broadcast reported: “China has set a new record for the deepest onshore well in Asia!” — The Shunbei Ying-1 well, drilled by Sinopec with services provided by Tianyi’s DQ70 top drive, was successfully completed at a depth of 8,588 meters, breaking the Asian onshore drilling depth record and becoming the deepest well in Asia.

The Shunbei block is located within Shayar County, Xinjiang, on the northern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, in a Gobi‑desert region. Well Shunbei Ying‑1 is a five‑stage casing‑string well drilled by Sinopec along the northern margin of the Shuntuogole low uplift in the Tarim Basin, and it serves as a key high‑risk exploration well for the company. This time, our DQ70 top drive (serial number 701218) accompanying Well Shunbei Ying‑1 into Xinjiang has also presented a formidable challenge.

Shunbei Ying‑1 Well is a key high‑risk exploration well of Sinopec, located within the Shunbei Ying‑1 structural trap, with a final measured depth of 8,588 meters. Drilling commenced at 08:00 on September 5, 2017, and was completed at 02:20 on February 19, 2019, spanning a total drilling period of 531.73 days. Prior to spudding, the service team conducted a comprehensive overhaul of the top drive; during drilling, they maintained close monitoring and proactive planning, and in response to complex downhole conditions, promptly dispatched field personnel to the rig to ensure the top drive operated continuously for over 500 days without any failures.

The DQ70 top drive is normally rated for depths up to 7,000 meters, yet the Shunbei Ying‑1 well has now achieved a total measured depth of 8,588 meters. Not only have we set a new record for well depth, but we have also successfully withstood the challenges posed by Shunbei’s complex geological formations and extreme high‑torque operating conditions, once again demonstrating the excellence of “Tianyi Manufacturing” on the southern Xinjiang plateau.
